A few weeks after the Texas Education Agency canceled STAAR exams, Carroll ISD followed up by canceling all of its final exams for the 2019-2020 school year. Final exams were originally scheduled for May 26-28 for grades 7-12.
The decision to exempt CISD students from final exams came after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott extended school closures until May 4. Instead, students who participated in their online learning assignments will receive a 100 for the final nine-week grading period, according to the district's #SAFEdragon page.
For those who have not completed their assignments, they will receive a 69 as their final grade for the fourth nine-week period. Although the final grade will get averaged into the second-semester grade, it will not affect a student’s grade point average since the district will freeze each student’s GPA after the third nine-week period. This will also not affect a senior’s class rank or the final graduating class of 2020.
