After several applications, interviews and focus group meetings, CISD announced Midlothian ISD Superintendent Dr. Lane Ledbetter as the lone finalist for the district's next superintendent.
Working for 27 years in education, Dr. Ledbetter has experience working as both an educator and administrator in several school districts. According to MySouthlakeNews.com, Dr. Ledbetter originally taught and coached in Lake Travis, Grapevine-Colleyville and Carroll ISD before moving on to work in Birdville ISD's administration for 13 years.
His first superintendent job was at Graham ISD in 2012 before he accepted the Midlothian superintendent position in 2015, where he rolled out a one-on-one technology initiative and passed the largest bond program in the school’s history.
But Ledbetter’s connection to Carroll ISD is even stronger than that. A Dragon alum himself graduating from the class of 1989, Dr. Ledbetter is the son of Carroll ISD coach and athletic director Bob Ledbetter, who’s been a part of the Dragon community since its 3A days and was inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
“I am very excited and humbled to be named the lone finalist in Carroll ISD,” Dr. Ledbetter says. “The opportunity to return to a community and school district that had such a tremendous impact on me personally as well as my family would be a true honor. It is my experience in Carroll ISD that developed my foundation and instilled in me a desire for excellence.”
CISD Board President Michelle Moore says Dr. Ledbetter’s name was selected out of 45 applicants and five semi-finalists that the board interviewed over the course of a few weeks. She says his personal experience with the district made the board feel he was the most capable to lead the district forward.
“Dr. Ledbetter impressed us with his knowledge and experience. We felt that he represented much of what our community told us they want in the next leader,” Michelle says. “We are excited to welcome a former Dragon back home.”
The board voted unanimously to name Dr. Ledbetter as the lone finalist during a special meeting called on Friday, November 20. After the 21-day waiting period, a special board meeting is expected to be called the week of December 11 to finalize the hire. Dr. Ledbetter is expected to start working as Carroll ISD’s superintendent by January 2021.
