Southlake Carroll will begin searching for a new superintendent by the end of the year.
On Friday evening, Carroll ISD superintendent Dr. Lane Ledbetter announced that he was planning to retire from his position by the end of the year. A class of 1989 graduate and the son of Carroll coach and athletic director Bob Ledbetter, Dr. Ledbetter previously served as head superintendent for Graham ISD and Midlothian ISD prior to joining Carroll in Jan. 2021.
"This decision was not made lightly, but after considerable thought, my wife and I firmly believe that now is the right time for me to transition into retirement while seeking new opportunities to continue contributing to the field of education," Dr. Ledbetter says via email. "I want to express my deepest gratitude to each member of the board, our faculty and staff, as well as the entire Dragon community. Serving Carroll ISD, a district that holds a special place in my heart as my alma mater, has been an honor, and I will forever cherish the opportunity to give back to the community that has done so much for me and my family."
The board will begin the search for Dr. Ledbetter's successor effective immediately. Dr. Ledbetter says he will continue to serve and assist with the transition until his last day on Dec. 31, 2024.
