Amélie is flying from France to Southlake this weekend for Carroll Theatre’s fall musical. Based on the 2001 French film of the same name, "Amélie" tells the story of a young girl who moves to Paris and experiences a series of colorful adventures with the people who live there.
"Amélie" was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Foreign Language Film and was adapted for Broadway in 2015 by writer Craig Lucas, lyricist Nathan Tysen and musician Daniel Messé. Theatre director Jamie Pringle says Carroll Senior High School is one of the first schools in the country to perform the production onstage.
"Carroll Theatre is so excited to be one of the first high schools in the nation to present 'Amélie,'” Jamie says. “It is such a magical story of the power of imagination based on the award-winning French film of the same name. We have a wonderful production team, and we are working hard to present a wonderful evening of theatre showcasing the fine arts of Carroll Senior High School."
Senior Michelle D’Amico portrays Amélie for the production. She says in a Carroll Theatre Boosters video that she’s excited to play the whimsical and spellbinding character who is always seeking human connection throughout the show.
“She’s been isolated for most of her life,” Michelle says in the video. “She doesn’t really know how to connect with people, but she always wants to and longs for that. So she tries to bring happiness into people’s lives without really talking to them. She almost creates this magic in the lives of everyone around her.”
"Amélie" plays at 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Carroll Senior High School auditorium. Tickets are $20 to $25 and can be purchased at the box office or online at DragonDrama.net.
