Luke Cadena is an artist through and through. For the past two years, he has been an active member of the National Arts Honor Society and participated in numerous art competitions. Among some of his favorite classes that he has taken so far, Drawing II Pre-AP, Drawing III, AP 2D Design and AP U.S. History all make the list.
“These classes were my favorite due to my interest and the teachers I was given; they kept the class interesting,” Luke says.
Luke regularly participates in art competitions by entering his work in events such as the Congressional Art Competition and the Visual Arts Scholastic Event. Most recently, Luke earned third place in Sister Cities International’s Young Artists and Authors Showcase. To enter, artists must submit a piece that ts the year’s theme. With fellow artists submitting art from all over the world, Luke faced steep competition and impressively landed in the top three. He has worked hard to regularly enter his art while maintaining a high GPA and working part-time. Art is his passion as well as a highlight of his high school career.
“One of the teachers that has impacted me the most is [visual arts teacher] Mr. Horn,” Luke says. “He has pushed me to improve and grow tremendously over the past years. I have been so lucky to be his student since my sophomore year.”
After high school, he plans on going to college and studying printmaking and textile arts. In the meantime, he’ll continue his creative endeavors through his senior year.
