Starting next week, the humming chatter of students and teachers will fill the halls and classrooms at all 11 campuses within Carroll ISD. But hold off on packing your backpack, because these are five things you should know before heading back to school.
1. Mark Your Calendars!
Carroll elementary and intermediate students will get the chance to meet their educators during Meet The Teacher Day on Friday, Aug. 11. After that, the first day of school begins on Tuesday, Aug. 15 for all K-12 students. Students will have to make it through until Dec. 20 and 21 when the first semester ends for 5-12th and K-4th grades, respectively.
2. Welcome To 150 New Hires!
The school district welcomed 150 new hires during their back-to-school breakfast earlier this month, so be prepared to meet plenty of new faces. From first-year teachers to returning Carroll alums, these new teachers, coaches and administrators will be the ones to know this semester.
3. New Names, Same Facilities.
While Southlake Carroll’s facilities are well known, some are being reintroduced to the community under new names. On Aug. 21, the aquatics center will be renamed in honor of Elise Cerami. Then during the Dragons’ home game that same weekend, the football field will be dedicated to Bob Ledbetter, the Carroll Hall of Fame football coach who served 17 seasons and brought home three state championships.
4. A New Season Of Dragon Football Kicks Off.
Speaking of football, the Dragons’ new season kicks off with a scrimmage against the Arlington Colts on Thursday, Aug. 17, at Arlington High School. The first official game of the season will be against El Paso Eastwood on Friday, Aug. 25, at Dragon Stadium, where the crowd will be decked out in home team green.
5. The Emerald Belles Turn 60.
Lastly, the Emerald Belles drill team celebrates its 60th anniversary this fall. Founded in 1963, the Belles developed a renowned reputation, appearing on “America’s Got Talent,” “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and “The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show”. Numerous generations of Belles will perform in their iconic synchronized fashion during an incredible halftime show on Friday, Sept. 1, where everyone will be celebrating the Belles’ incredible legacy.
