Only a handful of people can call themselves Lone Star Emmy Award winners — and one of them teaches at George Dawson Middle School.
A history and journalism teacher, Josh Ault was previously nominated at the Lone Star Emmy Awards for his story on George Dawson’s legacy. He spoke to his co-author Richard Glaubman, his granddaughter Mashelle and his great-grandson Christopher Irvin for the story. Not only was he nominated in the Texas Heritage - Short Form or Long Form Content category, but he ended up winning the award during the ceremony last month.
“I am so excited to receive this honor and keep George Dawson’s legacy alive,” Josh says. “I hope more people will read his book and the students at my school will know how important it is to have such an amazing man be named for our school.”
