Southlake 18-year-old Casey Lapham, a senior at Carroll High School is "using her talent to benefit a local non-profit organization that assists women and children in crisis situations," according to a recent article on MySouthlakeNews.
Graduating in June, Lapham, a long-time Girl Scout, is using her artistic talents to help Grapevine nonprofit, The Gatehouse. It's a new supportive living community and it celebrated a grand opening recently. Lapham contacted the organization to see how she could help in an attempt to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award. When organizers found out she was an art student, they asked her to do some wall art, according to the story.
"Lapham said the organizers wanted families to see something bright and happy every day, 'I was excited to see how much art could inspire people and make a difference,'" she's quoted in the article.
Residents will see Lapham's paintings on the walls of two dozen units when the center welcomes families later this spring. Lapham attributes Eric Horn as her favorite art teacher from her years of taking classes at Carroll ISD.
In addition to these paintings, Lapham hosted a painting workshop for younger girl scouts at Grapevine's Painting With a Twist. Lapham belongs to Girl Scout Troop #4032 and will attend the University of Oklahoma this fall.
