For the fourthbrconsecutive year, all four Dragon Cross Country teams placed first inbrthe district meet, giving the varsity teams a spot in the regional meet inbrLubbock on Friday. The varsity and junior varsity teams dominated in their new 6A district.brThe top three schools in the varsity boys and girls divisions advance to thebrregional meet.
“As a program, webrare very excited and pleased with our district performances,” said SouthlakebrCarroll head coach Justin Leonard. “Tobrwin all four divisions in a 6A district is a great accomplishment. Scoring 20 points in both varsity divisionsbrand perfect scoring both JV divisions speaks volumes to the amount of work andbrdedication that our kids put into this program. However, this is just one goal that we have accomplished and we need tobrkeep pushing forward to our upcoming regional meet.”
The Varsity LadybrDragons top five scoring runners finished in the top 10, led by the districtbrchampion Sarah Odneal with a time of 18:51. Gillian Mortimer was just seconds behind, grabbing second placebrwith a time of 18:53. Ari Lopez took fourth with 19:16, Rianna Randolphbrcame in sixth running a 19:24 and Kayli Jones rounded out the scoringbrpositions with a seventh-place finish and a time of 19:32. Sarah McCabe and Antigone Archer alsobrcompeted for the Lady Dragon team.

The boys also dominated their race taking spots 2-8 and were led by Eli Canal, who took second place with a time of 15:44. Reed Brown took third, runningbra 15:58. Timou Toure came in fourth with 16:03, Eric Karl came in fifthbrwith a time of 16:16 and Ansel Richards finished out the scoring positions in sixthbrplace, running a 16:19. Charlie Gardnerbrand Luke Lanham also ran taking the seventh and eighth placesbrrespectively.
JV Dragons Reign Supreme
The JV Dragon boys showed how deep their talent goes by taking 17 of thebrtop 20 spots and nine of the top 10 places. Perfect scoring their race, the JV boys were led by Michael Waugh takingbrfirst place, Eric Vetere second, Chase Haddock third,brJeremy Gonzales fourth and Juan Arcila fifth to finish out thebrscoring positions.
The JV Lady Dragons also scored a perfect 15 and had 17 of the top 20brspots and nine out of the top 10. They werebrled by Catherine Tracht, who took the first place spot, Allison Esparzabrsecond, Ali White third, Chantal Van Der Westhuizen fourth. Sophie Watson rounded out the scoring positions taking fifthbrplace.
ThebrSouthlake Carroll Cross Country Varsity teams will compete on Oct. 31 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock in the highly competitive regional meet.
