Fall can only mean one thing in the great state of Texas, and we'll give you a hint. It has nothing to
do with leaves changing color and everything to do with fried Thanksgiving Dinner, last year's Big Tex Choice Award winner for most creative fair food. That's right, you guessed it! It's time for the State Fair of Texas. Mark your calendar: the Fair runs Sept. 26 through Oct. 19.
The iconic, blue Texas Star will once again be rotating and screams of Midway excitement will be heard for miles around. Kids of all ages – even those in their 30s and 40s – can experience the spectacle that is the State Fair Midway: funhouses, roller coasters and bumper cars top the list of more than 70 rides. Also, don't forget to test your luck at the popular Midway games.
Not only will there be thrills at the Midway, and ostriches racing neck and neck, but fair-goers can also ‘hoot and holler' during the 85 free performances from the Chevy Main Stage.
Chevy also heads the list of automakers set to show off their latest 2015 models at the fair's annual Auto Show. After the cars and trucks, check out the many interactive displays and live entertainment offered throughout the 400,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space. If the latest kitchen gadgets seem more interesting than gears and wheels, the State Fair has more than 15 dedicated shopping locations around the park.
Taking college football, the Red River Rivalry, and sports fandom to the next level, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, along with the Dallas Historical Society, will be presenting “Texas Sports Legends,” which honors those who have contributed to the proud athletic history of the Lone Star State.
And did we mention the food? It's fried, and it's fabulous! So much so that fair officials now refer to the month-long event as the
Fried Food Capitol of Texas. Money can't buy you love, but a few dollars worth of midway coupons can get you a Fried Cuban Roll!
