The Carroll Dragon girls and boys cross-country teams took 1stplace at the Texas 5A state meet on Saturday. “Believe” was the Dragon mottobrthis cross-country season as there were many new faces on both girls and boysbrvarsity teams. It began at the Greenhill relays in August and finished with thebrchampionship trophies on Saturday. The top 12 teams in Texas made the journeybrto Round Rock to compete.
The course was reconfigured due to the heavy rain in thebrarea last week. The sun was shining, and the new course brought more sharpbrturns and hills this year. The Dragon teams believed in their training andbrtheir teammates and achieved their common goal.
"I'm so proud of the kids and the way they ran tobrclench the 3-peat,” said Coach Justin Leonard. “This truly was a program winbrfor us. The kids bought in, set big goals and went to work in achieving them. Thisbrsenior class left its mark on the program just like the ones before them, andbrwe are grateful for that.” Leonard's favorite quote is "he who runs withbrthe past never runs alone.”
