After securing their first win and position at the top of the leader board in District 5-6A, the Southlake Carroll Dragons (4-0) will host the Denton Guyer Wildcats (3-2) at Dragon Stadium in the first home district game of the season.
Not only do the Dragons currently sit at the number one spot in the District 5-6A rankings, they are also the No. 8 team in Division 6A in Texas.
The Dragons opened district play with a 58-37 victory over the Keller Indians, while Guyer defeated Keller Central 34-13.
The Wildcats are expected to be Carroll's top competition in the district, after finishing second in District 6-6A last season, right behind the Allen Eagles. Denton Guyer went into the Division II playoffs as the No. 1 seed, only to be upset by Byron Nelson, another member of Division 5-6A.
The Dragon defense will need to be on their toes to contain both the pass and run game that the Wildcats bring to the field. Guyer returns sophomore quarterback Eli Stowers, who had over 100 passing yards and a 52 percent completion rate last week against Keller Central. So far this season, Stowers has an average completion rate of 46 percent and five touchdowns.
Stowers will be looking to hang the ball off to junior running back Kaedric Cobbs, who racked up over 1,300 yards and 25 touchdowns his sophomore year as a Wildcat. So far this season, Cobbs has just under 200 rushing yards.
Junior Harrison Bohannon is the Wildcats' multipurpose player. Bohannon could be considered ambidextrous on the field, playing both sides of the ball at running back and outside linebacker. This season, Bohannon matches Cobbs with just around 200 rushing yards.
In the passing game, Stowers will be looking for his main receiver, junior Seth Meador, who has 209 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the first five games of the season.
Southlake Carroll's Connor Patterson leads the Dragon defense with a total of 41 tackles already on the season. Patterson and the rest of the defensive line will need to put pressure on Stowers and contain the Guyer offense.
Carroll quarterback Will Bowers will need to carefully execute all of his passes tonight, as the Wildcat defense has racked up four interceptions already this season. Senior free safety Brent Jackson leads the team with 48 tackles on the season.
Bowers and running back TJ McDaniel will need to maintain the same momentum as last game, after collectively scoring seven touchdowns.
The Dragons and Wildcats will kick off at 7 p.m. in Dragon Stadium.
