Both the Carroll Cross Country boys and girls teams earned state meet bids, for the 10th consecutive year and the 24rd consecutive year respectively. After the boys and girls came out on top at the Region 1-6A cross country meet, the Dragons have their eyes set on the state championship on Nov. 9.
The regional meet featured impressive finishes, including Nate Lennen who led the boys team by placing third overall. Antonio Florcruz, Solomon Chavez, Joe Gardner and Michael McCabe also scored for the team. Jenna Holland led the girls team with her fourth place overall finish. Tatum Foreman, Katherine McElaney, Kaylie Cox and Abigail McIlvain also scored for the Lady Dragons.
“We are proud of the way our kids stepped up and competed at the Regional meet in Lubbock,” head coach Justin Leonard says via press release. “It was our final dress rehearsal before the big dance and hopefully we will carry the momentum into the state meet. Also, having four individuals in the top 10 was big for our team. Now we just need to refocus and finish the goal.”
Other teams moving onto state include Coppell, Lewisville Flower Mound and El Paso Franklin. We’ll have to stay tuned until next week to see if the Dragons can sweep once again.
