Dragon Cheer presented a check for more than $21,000 to the Odessa Community Foundation before the September 13 football game. Dragon Cheer started raising money earlier this month after the Odessa shooting.
The Carroll senior cheerleaders came together to design a “One with Odessa” T-shirt that features the Texas state outline and a heart connecting the two cities. The organization also accepted online donations for those who wanted to still contribute after Dragon Cheer sold out of the shirts.
Dragon Cheer Booster Club President Tracy Thomas previously told Southlake Style that it warmed her heart seeing other Carroll athletic organizations join Dragon Cheer’s efforts including but not limited to the Emerald Belles, the Dragon Band and the football coaching staff.
“I literally have chills thinking about it,” Tracy says.
She also shared that while the local support has really impacted Dragon Cheer, Tracy says the feedback they have received from Odessa citizens has been especially impactful.
“They are so heartfelt and thanking us for the fundraiser and have told us what a difference it is going to make,” Tracy says.
