In a 37-15 win against Desoto, the Carroll Dragons ensured their season will continue, keeping the dreams of winning state alive. In the last two games, the Dragons have outscored their opponents 121-21, remaining undefeated this season with a record of 12-0.
Last week’s game against Desoto saw the defense shine, with senior Graham Faloona recording 14 tackles and one sack. In total, the Dragons sacked Desoto’s quarterback six times — the best total this season so far. Two interceptions continued the defense’s impressive outing — recorded by Dylan Thomas and Brandon Howell. In total, the Dragons held Desoto — a team that averages 44 points a game — to just 15 points.
The offense also came out strong, led by quarterback and DFW Elite Realty Player of the Game, sponsored by Thomas and Sharon Michael, Quinn Ewers. Ewers was 18-28 for 364 yards and five touchdowns. Desoto strategically stacked the box against the run, holding the Dragons without a rushing touchdown for the first time all season and in effect daring Ewers and company to beat them through the air. Ewers and the receiving game came out strong, spreading the passing to his top wide-outs. Five receivers caught at least 3 passes and four receivers caught a touchdown pass.
The night’s leading receiver was Wills Meyer, who caught five passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. Fellow receivers RJ Mickens caught three passes for 84 yards and Brady Boyd caught three passes, two of which were touchdowns.
Winning this game means that Southlake Carroll is now ranked No. 11 nationally and No. 3 in the state, according to MaxPreps.com.
Looking ahead, the Dragons will be spending their Thanksgiving preparing to play Midland Lee who is 11-1 on the season and averages 56 points per game. The Rebels are ranked No. 123 nationally and No. 28 in the state, according to MaxPreps.com.
The game against Midland Lee will take place at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Abilene’s Shotwell Stadium. Ticket information should be available later in the week.
