The Dragons took down the Marcus Marauders 38-7 last Friday thanks to a stout defense along with a power-rushing scheme.
Prior to taking the role as Southlake Carroll's head coach in 2018, Riley Dodge was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Marauders (0-2). A defensive front led by senior captain Cade Parks gave up just 10 yards rushing for the entire game. Parks, Kyle Middleton and Dustan Marks each recorded a sack on the night, while Carter High and Aaron Scherp led the team in tackles with eight and seven respectively.
Coach Dodge added to a solid defensive effort by keeping the game clock running with 35 rushing attempts to only 21 passing plays. Dragon Pride Player of the Week Owen Allen led the team rushing 21 times for 213 yards (10.1 yards per rush) and two touchdowns. Senior running back Todd Mallory contributed 24 yards on six carries in late action.
The Dragons did rush often and well, but when Kaden Anderson did drop back, the results were just as impressive. Anderson threw 14 of 20 for 210 yards (70%) and three touchdowns. As in Week One, Anderson’s top target was junior wide-out Jacob Jordan, who caught five passes for 97 yards and all three receiving touchdowns. Clayton Wayland is also making a name for himself with another four receptions for 54 yards.
Another field goal from Tyler White closed out the scoring for the Dragons, who are averaging 52 points per game on the season.
The Dragons (2-0) will now turn their attention to the Cedar Hill Longhorns (0-2), who are coming off of a Week Two loss to Arlington Martin 44-6. The “Green Out” game will be played at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 at Dragon Stadium.
