The wins just keep on coming for Southlake Carroll’s football team. Last week, the Dragons defeated Keller Fossil Ridge 45-21 in their last game of the regular season, and now they’re headed to the playoffs. As of now, Southlake Carroll is 7-1 in the regular season and undefeated in district play.
Quarterback Hunter Holden, our Dragon Pride Player of the Week, sponsored by Thomas & Sharon Michael | DFW Elite Realty, shined during the game, completing 12 of 13 passes for 219 yards and five touchdowns — a pass completion percentage of 92%. Tight end RJ Maryland was on the receiving end of many of Holden’s passes — the junior caught for 87 yards and three touchdowns.
This game also saw senior Brady Boyd make a splash. The wide receiver caught for 125 yards and two touchdowns. And junior wide receiver Landon Samson also caught for 57 yards and a touchdown.
The defense also had a good night, holding Fossil Ridge to only 219 yards of offense. Junior linebacker Benecio Porras led the defense in tackles with 11 while senior defensive back Cinque Williams made three tackles and caused a fumble.
With the success of the offense, quarterback Kaden Anderson got the change to play. The sophomore completed eight of his 10 passes for 100 yards and one touchdown.
With the first round of the playoffs this week, Southlake Carroll is set to face off against Haltom on December 11 at Dragon Stadium. The Haltom Buffalos currently have a 5-4 regular season record and a 5-2 district play record, according to MaxPreps.com.
It’s been years since the Dragons last faced off against the Buffaloes. In 2013, Southlake Carroll defeated Haltom 65-7, and in 2014, the Dragons defeated them again 62-0.
General admission tickets for this first playoff game will go on sale on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. with parking $5.
