CXC 2022 Seniors
2022 Carroll Cross Country Seniors were celebrated after the district meet on 10/13 at Bob Jones Park.
The Southlake Carroll boys and girls cross-country teams successfully defended their District 4-6A titles at Bob Jones Park on Thursday morning. According to a media release, this is the 13th consecutive district title for the boys and the fourth in a row for the girls.
After the meet, the team celebrated its seniors in a special team-only ceremony.
“I’m very proud of our young men and women,” head coach Justin Leonard says. “We work all year to prepare for the championship season, and district titles are the first step. We’re looking forward to carrying this momentum into regionals.”
In the varsity boys’ race, junior Jude Alvarez won the individual district title with a time of 14:58. Senior Logan Cantu finished second in 15:05, followed by freshman Caden Leonard (fourth, 15:08), senior Robert Freeman (fifth, 15:10) and sophomore Blake Bullard (sixth, 15:17). Junior Zach Troutman (seventh, 15:19) and senior Tyler Ortiz (ninth, 15:34) rounded out the Dragon competitors.
In the girls’ competition, senior Ava Bushaw won the individual district title, finishing with a time of 16:43. She was followed by senior Audrey Dunn (second, 17:15), junior Sylvia Schwedler (third, 17:27), sophomore Elizabeth Smits (fifth, 17:50) and sophomore Sarayu Veluri (eighth, 18:06). Senior Natalie Ng (10th, 18:20) and junior Alexandra Walsh (23rd, 19:08) were the Dragons’ final two finishers.
In the final JV race of the season, the Dragon boys finished first through 12th, leading Carroll to the district JV title. Junior Ryan Van De Berghe finished first in 15:34, followed by senior David Fisher (second, 15:46), junior Brady Golomb (third 15:47), sophomore Alex Severson (fourth, 15:51) and sophomore Ryan Krasinski (fifth, 16:13). Finishing sixth through 12th were junior John Adam Keida (16:22), junior Carter Haskell (16:25), senior Jack Litwin (16:31), senior Jeremy Kogan (16:32), sophomore Griffin Cords (16:43), senior Vivek Reddy (16:44) and junior Tino Ross (16:47).
In the girls JV race, the Dragons finished first through ninth, along with 11 of the top 12, to capture the district JV championship. Sophomore Gabriella Tesoriero finished first in 18:33, followed by junior Julia Gassett (second, 18:36), junior Charlotte Martin (third, 18:46), sophomore Ryann Flores (fourth, 19:01) and freshman Luna Gutierrez (fifth, 19:01). Finishing sixth through ninth were senior Hannah McIlvain (19:13), sophomore Mia Lay (19:19), freshman Vanessa Vezga (19:31) and junior Kylee Cusick (19:38). Senior Mia Tesoriero finished 11th in 19:48, followed by senior Sophia Medina in 12th (19:50).
The Dragons now advance to the Region 1-6A meet in Lubbock on Oct. 24. The boys will be aiming for their fifth consecutive regional championship, and the girls will look to improve on their second-place finish from a year ago.
