Extending its undefeated season, Southlake Carroll defeated Keller Timber Creek in a 42-7 win in front of a sold-out crowd on Senior Night, advancing to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in district play.
While the Dragons were sluggish at the start — entering halftime with just a 6-0 lead — they came alive during the second half of the game, with running back Owen Allen, our Dragon Pride Player Of The Week, presented by AC Pros, having another standout night in the backfield.
The junior rushed for 247 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries, putting him just 169 yards from breaking Tre Newton’s record of 4,795 career rushing yards.
On the receiving end, both RJ Maryland and sophomore Jacob Jordan were the main targets for quarterback Kaden Anderson, who threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns. The pair of wide receivers caught for a combined 151 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, the Dragons stopped the Falcons in their tracks at nearly every turn. With 368 total yards of defense, Max Reyes caught an interception on top of his three solo tackles while three Dragons — Avyonne Jones, Benecio Porras and Zach Philips — all knocked down a pass and recorded a combined 23 tackles.
Avyonne also made the team’s only sack on the night while senior defensive back Luke Ledbetter, meanwhile, led the defense in tackles with nine.
With this win, the Dragons move up in the national rankings, now sitting at No. 11, according to MaxPreps.com. Locally, Southlake Carroll is the No. 1 team in Division 6A, Region 1, Dallas and the state.
With just one game left in the regular season, Southlake Carroll will take on Fossil Ridge at the KISD Athletics Complex at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4.
