In an 84-6 game, the Dragons achieved two things: They earned a spot in the next round of playoffs and they tied their record for most points in a playoff opener. The impressive Nov. 15 win continues the Dragons’ undefeated streak and ensures the Dragons will continue on the road to state.
The offense shined, helmed by quarterback Quinn Ewers who was 11 for 13 on the night with 306 yards and five touchdowns. Wills Meyer received two of the touchdowns while RJ Mickens, Brady Boyd and John Manero each received one touchdown.
For their rushing game, player Owen Allens — who rushed for 178 yards on the night — scored the most touchdowns, four. In total, the Dragons rushed for 366 yards and seven touchdowns.
The defense also performed well on Friday night. Dragons player Graham Faloona had eight solo tackles on the night while Preston Forney and James Miscoll both had five solo tackles. While there were no defensive touchdowns, Jacob Lattiq recorded the only sack and Dylan Thomas recorded the only interception of the game.
Looking ahead, the Dragons are set to play DeSoto — who currently have a 9-2 record — on Friday, Nov. 22 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Last Friday, DeSoto beat Skyline in a 44-6 game. Led by Coach Claude Mathis, they are currently ranked at No. 86 nationally, No. 16 in the state and No. 6 in the region, according to MaxPreps.com.
