One week after the Dragon Band captured 124 individual Superior medals for solo work and 81 Superior medals for ensemble performances, the squad performed an encore at the organization's annual "Band Bistro" fundraiser.
At that event, most of the top-rated ensembles perform for parents on stage. Over 200 members of the band participated in the Region 24 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Liberty High School in Frisco. The bistro fundraiser was held on Feb. 7, where a Dragon Band percussion ensemble performed their winning piece, "Sharpened Stick" by Dietz.
Sixty-nine student soloists and 18 ensembles were certified to advance to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest (TSSEC) in Austin at the Region 24 contest. The upcoming competition is scheduled for May 24 and May 30.
All solos and ensembles that received a Division I brrating on a Class 1 selection at the region solo or small ensemble contest during the brcurrent school year may enter TSSEC provided the solo was certified as being brperformed by memory at the region contest (exception: solos on the PML nomemorybrlist), according to the TSSEC director FAQ.
"Division I rating for a solo receives a gold medal; brDivision II rating for a solo receives a silver medal; Division I rating for an ensemble brreceives a bronze medal. Each solo judge may designate exemplary soloists as brOutstanding Performers. The Outstanding Performer Award represents the brattainment by an individual of superior musicianship as demonstrated in the brexacting competition of the Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest."
