Dragon Pride Fall Issue Community Rally
Take advantage of the bi-week and head out to the 13th annual Dragon Pride Fall Issue Community Rally on Thursday, September 20. The afternoon will offer fun for the whole family in a tailgate-like atmosphere, and did we mention there will be a dunk tank? Come out to meet the athletes featured in the magazine and enjoy food from Feedstore BBQ, Bread Winners and Cinnaholic. Don't forget to bring out your gently worn shoes for our shoe drive. We will be loading up Griffith Roofing's truck with donated goods that will benefit GRACE.
Leave the littles at home and come support the local arts with your older kiddos by attending Carroll Senior High School's production of “Antigone.” The Greek tragedy, originally written by Sophocles in 442, follows a young woman as she fights to honor her family and her belief system, even when under scrutiny. The run consists of three shows each held at 7 p.m. from September 20 to 22. Tickets cost $10 each and are available for purchase at the door.
For some exceptional food and restaurant tours, head over to Feedstore BBQ on Friday, September 21 for their launch of their certified Hereford Beef. From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., locals can come out to try some free brisket samples, tour the historic Southlake establishment and get a closer look at their smokers. It's a great way to learn more about where they source their products from and get a personal look at how the barbecue joint functions. And you know their dishes are going to be great.
Flutter over to the Bob Jones Nature Center on Saturday, September 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. for the celebration of the official insect of Texas. The fourth annual Monarch Butterfly Festival will bring out all kinds of locals who want a closer look at these beautiful creatures. Activities include face painting, butterfly crafts, kid-friendly entertainment and much more. Be sure to stick around for the grand release of 500 butterflies – it's a sight you won't want to miss.
The Palace Arts Center presents “The Parent Trap”
The 1998 remake starring Lindsay Lohan (x2), Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson is making its way back to the big screen with this special showing. Get ready to introduce your kids to the identical twins Annie and Hallie who meet each other for the first time at summer camp. And the shenanigans don't stop there. They switch places and try to live as each other, which ends up bringing their parents back together. Your kids will laugh at the pranks, handshakes and jokes sprinkled through this tale. Be sure to bring in a same-day receipt from a Grapevine restaurant to snag your free popcorn!
