The U.S. Women’s Volleyball Team is going for the gold this week, and a Southlake Carroll alumna is on the front line for their defense.
Graduating from Carroll ISD in 2018, Asjia O’Neal is a middle blocker who made her senior national team debut at the 2023 Volleyball Nations League. Previously playing for the University of Texas, Asjia is a two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American who previously helped the Longhorns work towards two NCAA Championships in 2022 and 2023. She also finished her time at the university with 594 total blocks, the most in the school’s history.
This week, Asjia is playing on another court at College Park in Arlington for the Women’s Volleyball Nations League. The tournament kicked off with a match against Canada on May 28, where the U.S. team prevailed 3-1. Their next match will be against Bulgaria on May 31, followed by a back-to-back bout against Poland and Turkey on June 1 and 2. After this week, the U.S. team will move on to compete in Fukuoka, Japan, with the final round taking place June 20-23 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Tickets for the Women’s Volleyball Nations League are $16-$23. If you would like to be part of the action, visit VNLTickets.com.
