It’s official: This year's Southlake Baseball players are championships once more. The Dragons took on Fort Bend Ridge Point on June 8 during the state championship and set new UIL state tournament records for most runs in a game and most runs in a single inning. Their effort was obvious with the final score of 17-0. While this is a back-to-back victory, most baseball fans did not expect this from this year’s team. Last year’s state roster included more than 20 seniors, many of which have gone on to compete in collegiate play. But the team regrouped and proved they too could be competitive on the run to state. This was their 21st consecutive postseason tournament play.
“We are the typical Carroll team that is going to put pressure on the defense by running the bases and manipulating the barrel,” head coach Larry Vucan says.
Before heading to state, the team competed locally at one of the Metroplex’s biggest fields: Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Park. Locals came out to the ballpark to cheer on the Dragons and see them, once again, claim victory.
