Lady Dragon Basketball 2022-2023 District Champs
Carroll Dragon Lady Basketball finished the regular season as District Champions with a 28-3 overall record
Following the end of the 2022-2023 season where the Lady Dragons finished as District 4-6A Champions with a 31-4 overall record, a host of individual players were recognized for their achievements. In all, seven Lady Dragons were named to an All-District Team and 14 achieved Academic All-District honors.
Senior and recent West Point commit Camryn Tade took home her second straight District MVP award after averaging 21 points and seven rebounds per game for a team that reached the Sweet 16 of the UIL State Tournament.
The Lady Dragon roster was bolstered immensely this season by the trio of Jordan sisters. Sophomore Milania Jordan, who already holds an offer to play for SMU, was named the 4-6A District Offensive Player of the Year. Her two freshman sisters, Gianna and Natalia, were named Co-Defensive Player of the Year and Co-Newcomer of the Year respectively.
Junior forward Taryn Barnes was named 4-6A First Team All-District while fellow junior Caitlin Slowik and sophomore Katah Gunter were Honorable Mention selections.
Coach Robin McCoart’s team was virtually unstoppable, winning 23 straight games and earning a No. 9 state ranking before falling to No. 6-ranked Coppell 51-41 in the Regional Semifinals. The Lady Dragons steadily climbed the ranks all season long in no small part due to Tade’s scoring output and the addition of the Jordan sisters. Together, the team scored over 68 points each night — second only in area scoring to Duncanville’s 73 points per game.
Academically, you’d be hard-pressed to find a smarter collection on any court in the state as the following players were named Academic All-District; Taryn Barnes, Gianna Jordan, Yasmina Kantar, Katah Gunter, Milania Jordan, Ria Singh, Lexi Schneider, Isabel Henderson, Natalia Jordan, Ellayna Kleiman, Caitlin Slowik, Faith Leong, Camryn Tade and Ashton Tate.
