The Carroll Cross-Country teams swept at the Southlake Invitational over the weekend.
Finishing first place with a time of 17:05, junior Alexandra Walsh took the top spot for the girls team and won the individual gold medal in the elite varsity girls race. Senior Ava Bushaw finished second with a time of 17:25, followed by sophomore Elizabeth Smits at seventh place, junior Sylvia Schwedler at eighth and sophomore Gabriella Tesoriero at 18th. The girls’ outstanding performance led to a first-place overall finish with 147 points over runner-up Colleyville Heritage.
On the boys' side, senior Logan Cantu finished fourth overall with a time of 15:11, followed by sophomore Blake Bullard at eighth, freshman Caden Leonard at 12th, senior Robert Freeman at 18th and junior Zach Troutman at 23rd. The boys’ combined efforts led to a first-place overall finish with a 57-point victory over Coppell.
“This was a great way to start the season,” head coach Justin Leonard says via media release. “There’s always a lot of excitement for the opening meet, especially when it’s on your home course. Our young men and women handled their emotions well and ran hard.”
The Dragons’ next race is on Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Coach T Invitational at North Lakes Park in Denton.
