
While Southlake certainly needed the rain, a dedicated group of athletes were probably wishing for clearer skies last weekend.
The 14th Annual Southlake Invitational was held Saturday at Bob Jones Park in Southlake. Despite the deluge, the first three races were completed until field flooding caused the remaining races to be cancelled.
The event hosts teams from around the state and neighboring states with over 3,000 runners attending. Among those runners, our Dragons made their mark, with the Boys Varsity Elite and Girls Varsity Open both taking first place, and Girls Varsity Elite placing third.
“We are extremely pleased with the way our athletes responded to today's conditions," Carroll Cross Country Head Coach Justin Leonard says via press release. "Anyone can run fast when the conditions are ideal but the sign of a champion is when they can block it out and complete the goal. I wish we could have run all the races but sometimes unexpected things happen.”
