
Dragon Water Polo finished its first season as an official UIL sport strong, placing in the top three at the state contest.
On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Dragons headed to the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio to compete in its first state championship as a UIL sport. The Dragon boys (20-4-1) went head to head against the Clute Brazoswood Buccaneers (26-0-1) in the state semifinal, while the girls (21-1) played against the undefeated Richmond Foster Falcons (28-0).
While both teams were edged out of the finals, the Dragons proved to be solid competition, with the boys keeping up the pressure with a final score of 14-16. By the end of the weekend, not only did the Dragons finish third in the contest, but they also had nine athletes named to the inaugural All-State teams. Maile Farden, Regan Dixon, Brandt McBride and Chris Clarin were all named to the second team, while Kamdyn Geiseel, Eric Winkler and Rory McCarthy were named to the first team. In addition, Somto Okafo was also named the girls goalie of the year, while co-captain Jojo Walters was named the girls MVP.
