The Southlake CarrollbrCross Country teams ran away with big wins over the weekend. Five of the eightbrSouthlake teams placed first at the Marcus I Invitational meet in Denton'sbrNorth Lakes Park. All teams stepped up to meet the challenge of their first 5Kbrof the season. Between the boys and girls teams, 15 finished as National Elites*.
“We are extremely proudbrof the effort our kids put into all the races at the Marcus I invite. We ran inbra total of eight races and our kids competed really well,” said head coachbrJustin Leonard in a press release. “We told our runners their performances inbrthe Marcus meet are a reflection of the amount of work they put in over thebrsummer. Now it's up to them to progress from this point on leading into thebrdistrict, regional and state meet.”
The Dragons took first placebrin the Varsity Boys Elite race with Jackson Felkins leading the team taking fifthbroverall with a time of 15:48, followed by Jack Meyers grabbing ninth place atbr15:52, Connor Rutledge in 10th place running 15:53, Enzo Mortimer placingbr14th coming in at 16:01, and Juan Arcila in 15th at 16:05brto finish out the top five.
The Varsity Boys Openbrteam also had an impressive first-place finish with a low score of 25 points. Noah Castro took first for the Dragonsbrand third overall with a time of 16:34. Nate Lannen was next to cross the linebrwith a fourth-place finish and a time of 16:36, followed by Everett Kolto in fifthbrat 16:41, then Antonio Florcruz taking sixth with a 16:46 and Nick Arriaza finishingbrout the top five coming in seventh with a time of 16:46.
The Varsity Girls Elite teambrhad an impressive showing as well coming in second place led by Cate Trachtbrwith a sixth-place finish and a time of 18:12. Next was Sofia Santamaria takingbr20th place running a 18:38, Angie Riera placed 30th withbran 19:05, Christina Canal was 32nd, running a 19:09 and Sarah McCabebrin 33rd place with a 19:10 to round out the top five scoringbrpositions.
The Varsity Girls Openbrteam took first and scored just 34 points and was led by Rima Toure taking thirdbrplace with a time of 19:28, followed by Vy Nguyen taking sixth, running a 20:00,brPayton Wichman was right behind in seventh place running a 20:00, Jenna Hollandbrwas right behind that in eighth place with a 20:00 and Tatum Foreman roundedbrout the top five with a 10th place finish at 20:16.
Southlake Carroll alsobrdominated the JV Elite division, taking first place for both boys and girls. Thebrboys scored a low 41 points while the girls scored just 25 points, taking the second,brthird, fifth, sixth and ninth places.
The Dragon runners willbrbe hosting the Southlake Invitational meet Saturday, September 9 at Bob JonesbrPark in Southlake.
