Both the boys and girls Southlake Cross Country & Track Club teams have earned places at the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon, on December 2 after their performances during the Nike Regionals club meet last Saturday.
The girls' team took home the win for the Open 1 race with just 68 points, while the boys' finished in second place behind Flower Mound with 88 points while competing in The Woodlands, Texas. The South Regionals included teams from five states and only the top two teams from this meet moved onto the national competition.
“We are so proud of all 122 runners that competed this weekend at Nike South Regionals,” head coach Justin Leonard said via press release. “Our runners came to compete and we as a program came away with two first place team finishes and two second place team finishes. I'm so excited that our seniors will be able to end their high school XC careers on a national stage in Portland, Oregon.”
These programs have a history of attending Nationals, with this year marking the 12th trip for the girls and the 11th trip for the boys. There, they will compete against the top finishers from other Regional competitions around the country.
The girls' team had three athletes finish in the top 10 overall, with Cate Tracht coming in seventh place followed by Sarah McCabe who snactched up ninth place and Sofia Santamaria coming in behind her in 10th. Angie Riera, who finished in 18th, and Kate Reppeto, who finished in 24th, also captured scoring positions.
The boys' team had Juan Arcila come in 6th overall followed by Jackson Felkins in 12th, Vishnu Nair in 16th, Jack Meyers in 22nd and Enzo Mortimer finishing out the scoring positions at 32nd.
