Alex Nason
Alex Nason
In the late 1970s and early 80s, the Soviet Union was in the midst of a tremendous wheat shortage exacerbated by a grain embargo led by the U.S. and was struggling to find ways to feed its citizens. American politicians seized this opportunity to help Russian Jews escape from behind the Iron Curtain. They negotiated a trade with the Soviet government: wheat for exit visas. Thousands of lives suddenly and unexpectedly changed, including Alex Nason and his young family.
Rather than relying on his family’s story to be accurately passed along verbally to future generations, Alex wrote a book of his memoirs and journey to America. The result is an engrossing soft-bound book with a very high rating of 4.5 stars on Google. This Friday is your opportunity to meet the author and hear his fascinating tale in person.
