Sometimes, the best way to bond with your kids is by sharing your childhood with them. This weekend provides ample opportunity to do just that. Whether that means you open up one of your old board games, watch one of your favorite films or catch a vibrant show that first came into popularity in your youth, each of these events allows guests to share something special with their family. Where are you headed this weekend? Be sure to use #SouthlakeStyle in your pictures to keep us updated on your outings!
Start the weekend off right by heading to a summer game night at Southlake's Barnes and Noble this Thursday. It's a great opportunity to unplug for the evening and reconnect with your family over some of your favorite tabletop games. It's a great time to teach your kids about what you did for fun while growing up. Plus, it's a great excuse to feel a little nostalgic about times past.
Dive-In Movie: “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory”
Splash into a family-friendly night at NRH2O's Dive-In Movie this Friday. The event will feature the cheery story of “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.” It's a great way to share one of your childhood favorites with your kids. And after finding a spot in the wave pool on a hot day, you'll feel like you've won the golden ticket. The movie starts at dusk, but the park is open all day – so bring everyone out for some fun before settling into the film.
Grab your wingman or wingwoman, and head over to the Palace Theatre to catch the 1986 classic, “Top Gun.” The Tom Cruise film has captured hearts over the past 20 years with its dashing characters and entertaining humor. But be warned, even though the movie comes with a PG-rating, this movie might not be suited for all children. But your older kids are sure to get a kick out of the pop culture classic. Tickets are $6 per person, and bring your same-day receipt from a Grapevine restaurant to get free popcorn at the concession stand.
For a tale as old as time, catch one of Grand Prairie Art Council's productions of “Beauty and the Beast, Jr” at the Upton Theater. With only three shows, one on Friday and two on Saturday, now's your chance to catch this beautiful summer performance. Your kids will love seeing their beloved characters, and you'll love singing along to the timeless tunes. General admission is $5 can be purchased by phone.
National Day of the American Cowboy
Teach your kids about our state's past by saddling up for National Day of the American Cowboy this Saturday. The Stockyards National Historic District is hosting a day full of family-friendly activities including a cow-milking contest, rib-eating competition, cattle drive and parade and so much more. Guests also will get free admission to Billy Bob's Texas with a cowboy hat, so be sure to dress the part before moseying on out.
