Life's sweeter when served with succulent sandwiches, delectable desserts and a mason jar full of tea, all of which can be found at Mason & Dixie. Located on Main Street in Historic Downtown Grapevine, this charming bistro, created by a Southlake single mom and mother of four, is known for their homey interior and delicious casual dishes made from scratch from handpicked ingredients.
“We're not a grab and go restaurant,” owner and chef Beth Newman explains. “We want people to come in and make people happy with our food. I just want everyone to feel like they are eating at my house.”
It's easy to feel comfortable when you walk into the farmhouse décor-inspired space and grab a seat at one of their rustic tables. The room is filled with quaint, old-fashioned accent pieces that have been picked up over the years at local antique markets, which is fitting because their first location was found inside one. But since Mason & Dixie moved into this location last July, Newman has created a unique character that resonates with their diners even before they have a chance to glance at their menu.
While the quantity of food the eatery serves each day has grown exponentially since the move, their quality has continued to match the needs of their customers. After several requests and lots of demand, Mason & Dixie launched a breakfast and brunch menu. Newman has spent years finding the right recipe for biscuits and creating new spins on her favorite dishes, like her Brown Sugar Pecan Bread Pudding with Butter Bourbon Sauce that will become the Ryse and Shine featuring a Whiskey and Rye drizzle.
Regulars know that their lunch and dinner menus are full of hidden gems. Their Brisket Grilled Cheese, served with chopped brisket, homemade blueberry chipotle, jalapeno-tomatillo or barbecue sauce, is packed with enough cheese to give guests that perfect pull once they break apart their sandwich.
“I'm very cheese oriented,” Newman laughs.
And their Artichoke and Goat Cheese Panini, made with goat cheese, Havarti cheese, artichoke tapenade, organic spinach and balsamic glaze, is more than enough food for vegetarians. Gluten-free diners can rest assured they can get in on the sandwich action when swapping their typical bread with a gluten-free option.
But the real winner comes down to their sweets. On top of their Coconut Crème Cake, Newman serves up a fresh dessert each week. Everything from Strawberry Shortcake with goat cheese biscuits to Creamy Cheesecake with a lavender lemon blackberry sauce has been served up in their ornate glass dishware. They go great with one of their tea lattes that are made with in-house syrups with unexpected flavors, like orange blossom and rosewater.
Whether you come for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, it'll feel like you're coming home for the first time in a long time.
