BEST NEW SPECIAL: Perry's Steakhouse & Grille opened their doors in February adding a new lux dining establishment to town. While their menu is full of elegant offerings, their Famous Pork Chop lunch special lets locals enjoy this hearty dish at an approachable price. Their lunch-cut portion served with whipped potatoes and homemade applesauce is available for $14.95 Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., making it an easy choice for a business meeting or lavish lunch out.
BEST CHEF'S COAT: Ted Bilsky, the owner of Scratch Kitchen and one of our 2018 Tastemakers, doesn't need a name tag. His colorful chef's coats speak for themselves. He's just one of the many community members who does good and looks good doing it.
BEST NEW PIZZERIA: Delucca, North Texas' first rodizio de pizza – a concept that is extremely popular in Brazil and resembles a churrascarias steak house's service, opened its doors earlier this year. With an array of gourmet pies to choose from and beautiful cocktails to help wash them down, it is the new destination location for families and date night alike. They just opened a second location in Dallas' Design District and are in the process of opening more over the next few years.
BEST RESTAURANT COLLABORATION: This year, local restaurants joined forces with Black Door Renovation and GRACE to host Dine to Donate, a way for diners to give back while eating out. With the leadership of Rena Frost from Mac's on Main, from April 13 to 22, Boi Na Braza, Copeland's of New Orleans, Great Scott, Loveria Caffe, Mac's on Main, Mason & Dixie and Next Bistro offered prix fixe menus with $39-$49 price points with up to $8 going back to GRACE programs. In addition, Grapevine Craft Brewery donated $2 for every GRACE American Wheat Beer sold at their taproom in April.
BEST PLATING: The prettiest dish we saw this year wasn't served on a plate at all. Rather, Lime Bar & Kitchen serves their Lobster Pho in a vast bowl. Served with a well-rounded base of chicken or beef broth, delicate noodles and finely cut vegetables, the real winner of this dish is the entire lobster included in the entree. The pho is just as tasty as it is beautiful, and it's perfect for sharing.
BEST CLASSIC DINING: While we spent some time this September looking back at Roanoke's pathway to becoming “The Unique Dining Capital of Texas,” we also were able to learn more about The Classic Cafe, Roanoke's iconic New American restaurant. It has been serving quality plates for more than 25 years all in a cozy environment.
