Pizza Garden Project Water Bottle Greenhouse.
Dozens of blue bins are popping up throughout the halls of Carroll Senior High School to assist a green effort put forth by Environmental Science and Life Skills students.
Approximately 2,500 bottles will used to construct a water-bottle greenhouse. The greenhouse will be installed behind the CISD Aquatics Center and will be home to a variety of herbs and vegetables.
"The Pizza Garden Project" is an effort conducted by students to work together by collecting bottles, prepare them for construction, while science students cultivate seedlings to transfer to the greenhouse upon completion, according to mysouthlakenews.com.
The project is slated to continue year after year as students learn various life skills, including soil, plant life, gardening and organic versus inorganic.
At the end of each school year, students will make homemade pizza using all of the vegetables and spices grown throughout the year.
"When choosing a project I knew I wanted to do something for the Life Skills students whom I have had the pleasure of spending time with over the years,” says organizer and CSHS sophomore Michelle Kelly. “It was also important to me to do a project that would involve and benefit a large student body.”
Anyone with empty bottles can donate by depositing the bottles into the blue collection bins located throughout campus.
