Central Market
Central Market will host the 24th annual Hatch Chile Festival from August 7 to 20. This two-week event will celebrate the world-famous green chile pepper found in Hatch, New Mexico that’s often found in Tex-Mex favorites.
But because these chiles are only harvested a few weeks out of the year, and are not grown anywhere else in the world, these peppers are hard to come by in local grocery stores. Thankfully Central Market buys more Hatch chiles than any other retailer in Texas. There will be more than 330,000 pounds of Hatch peppers making their way to the 10 Central Market stores throughout Texas.
Locals can either buy the produce fresh or take advantage of a few of the exciting products also rolling into the Southlake store during the Hatch Chile Festival. Chile fanatics can find everything from Hatch Chile Seasoning and Hatch Mango Salsa to Hatch Chile Linguine and Hatch Gelato.
To learn a little more about cooking with these peppers, Southlake’s Central Market will host two different themed cooking classes during the festival. On August 17, locals can learn how to bake with hatch and on August 18, students will learn how to update classic recipes with the chiles.
