In celebration of Mother’s Day, here’s a list of our top 6 favorite movie moms!
In celebration of Mother’s Day, here’s a list of our top 6 favorite movie moms!
Number 6: Grandma Annie
Betty White plays the sweet and secretly kooky grandmother of Ryan Reynolds’ character in The Proposal. Whether she’s spearheading a bachelorette party for Sandra Bullock’s character, dancing around a bonfire and chanting in the woods, or faking a heart attack in order to bring her family together, Betty keeps us laughing and wishing she was our grandmother.
Number 5: Sarah Connor
Linda Hamilton plays Sarah Connor in the first two Terminator films. She’s tough, always there when the going gets rough, and rocks a pair of circle sunglasses better than anyone else! Her young son, John Connor, makes his debut in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, proving that working ladies can still juggle it all after they become moms. And she is one cool mom, you guys.
Number 4: Maria
In 1965, the world was introduced to 20-year-old Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music. Her sweet voice and iconic pixie haircut drew us in, but it was ultimately her genuine nature that captured our hearts. She instantly took the Von Trapp children under her wing and gave them the mother they so desperately needed. Maria is perhaps the most adored stepmother in all of film history.
Number 3: Aurora Greenway
Along with being a mother herself, Shirley MacLaine has portrayed a lot of moms in her day. Her most memorable motherly role was 1983’s Terms of Endearment. Shirley MacLaine’s performance as Aurora demonstrates how strong and enduring a mother’s love can be, even in the darkest of times. Everybody loves Shirley.
Number 2: Mrs. Gump
“Life’s like a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you’re gonna get.” With those simple words, Sally Field as Mrs. Gump is responsible for some of the wisest words ever spoken in film history. Mrs. Gump raised Forrest without pity for his disability but with total confidence that he could learn and grow just like everyone else. She’s a strong lady, that one.
Number 1: Helen Parr/Elastigirl
Helen Parr is our Number 1 favorite movie mom because, well, she’s a superhero! Holly Hunter voices the mother of three, who doubles as Elastigirl, proving that moms are superheroes even without the mask and super suit!
