The Metroplex has an array of dining options, and several of them can make accommodations for those with specific food regimes. But these restaurants are worth the drive for the breadth of possibilities they give to dinners on diets.
Vegan/Vegetarian-friendly Restaurants
The Healthy Hippie in Watauga offers countless vegan menu items. So whether you are an exclusive plant-based diner or just want to see what options are out there, a trip in is sure to be enjoyable. They have your typical vegan selections like wraps and salads, but they also have fun gets like vegan carrot dogs, mac and cheese and loaded nachos.
Fort Worth’s Spiral Diner also has plenty of vegan takes of comfort food favorites. The grilled portobello quesadilla offers that same beloved pull expected in the Tex Mex dish. And their baked goods, including custom cakes, are all made to order with 100% vegan, organic ingredients.
If you ever find yourself in Dallas’ Trinity Groves, V-Eats Modern Vegan’s selection will give you loads of options. The Country Fried Chick-non , made with deep-fried oyster mushrooms, comes with mac and cheese and grilled vegetables, making for a stacked meal. If you still have room for dessert, the Banana Foster Bread Pudding garnished with confection sugar and raspberry sauce is a great way to round out the meal.
“Free” Friendly Restaurants
Gluten-free diners will feel like they’ve gone to heaven after walking into Lower Greenville’s Company Café. After taking a bite of the gluten-free Stuffed French Toast, diners won’t feel like they are missing out on any of the fun. Paired with a morning cocktail, this spread measures up to any gluten-full brunch.
For an ice cream without the lactose, head over to Fort Worth’s Melt Ice Creams. The Velvet Vegan ice cream offers that same creaminess without the dairy. They also sell their flavors by the pint, so you can always snag an extra serving to save yourself the drive next time you are craving the sweet.
Anyone with food sensitivities should be looking forward to HG Sply. Co.’s mid-cities location opening in 2019. Their menu is completely customizable and perfect for those looking for dairy-, gluten- and soy-free options. To try it out before the local storefront opens, feel free to drive over to either their Dallas or Fort Worth locations.
Short-term Regimen-friendly Restaurants
Eating out on a Whole30 diet might sound challenging, but it just takes a little bit of research. Like before venturing over to Addison’s Flower Child, you might want to take a look at the menu. Their Strawberry Fields Salad can be Whole30 compliant if you drop the cheese, toasted oats and substitute the lemon avocado dressing, and it still carries all the great flavors.
For a compliant meal that doesn’t require substitutions, head over to Frisco's UP Inspired Kitchen for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Their list of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options runs long, but they also have a Whole30 approved menu. Their Whistler Vedge Hash, made with sautéed greens, bacon, a poached egg and roasted veggie hash, is sure to fill you up. And the Salmon Fritt, an egg “muffin” topped with smoked salmon and sprouted salad with lemon juice and olive oil offers different textures and flavors with each bite.
