Next month, 102 Pro Football Hall of Fame nominees will be narrowed down to 25 semi-finalists. Former Dallas Cowboy and current Southlake resident Russell Maryland could be on that list.
A 48-person committee compiled an initial list of 102 modern-era nominees. From November until Super Bowl Sunday – Feb. 3, 2019 – the list of athlete and coach candidates will get smaller and smaller. During the selection process, fans are invited to vote here on who they think should advance to the next round of consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2019.
And while everyone is encouraged to vote for 25 nominees, one former defensive tackle in the running is near and dear to Southlake. Maryland started his NFL career in 1991 as the No. 1 draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys. He spent five seasons with the team and helped them win three Super Bowls before signing with the Oakland Raiders in 1996. In fact, you'll notice that he is pictured as a Raider on the Pro Football Hall of Fame's website. He ended his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers in 2000. Over nine years of professional football, he played in 154 games and posted 371 combined tackles, 24.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.
