GRACE began its Feed Our Kids program this week at six sites across Grapevine. “Summer is official here at GRACE,” said Executive Director Shonda Schaefer. “We started the program Monday providing lunches for 632 children, and we are now feeding more than 700 kids every day.”
At Feed Our Kids, low-income children receive lunch from GRACE volunteers and staff. “Frequently, low-income children must be left alone during the day while their parents work,” said Schaefer. “Feed Our Kids provides children with a nutritious meal, and the program also gives children enrichment activities and opportunities to socialize safely with other children and volunteers.”
Feed Our Kids volunteers of all ages spend up to two hours at the larger sites, and most groups plan activities along with lunch. Volunteers have shared everything from face painting and bubbles to crafts and games at the sites. “Feed Our Kids is a joyful experience for all involved – watch for our blue signs and smiling faces!” Schaefer said.
