Metroport Meals On Wheels presented the second annual L.I.N.K. Award to Chris Wells and Curtis Wells at Fashion with Impact, its Fall Fashion Show and Shopping Bazaar held at the Marriott Solana on Friday, September 30, 2011. Established in 2010, the L.I.N.K. Award recognizes community advocates whose commitment to the community, both professionally and philanthropically, represents Leadership, Inspiration, Nurture, and Kindness. The Wells brothers have earned the respect and admiration of every nonprofit organization in Northeast Tarrant County for their unyielding support.
“Chris and Curtis Wells are well known for their gourmet restaurant, but what a lot of people don’t know is the Wells brothers have big and generous hearts. Without fanfare, they have given to our community for causes benefiting others. North Texas is a better place because of their tradition of kindness.” commented local columnist Joy Donovan.
Family and food are often used in the same sentence by both Chris Wells and Curtis Wells, proprietors of The Classic Café at Roanoke. Early childhood memories center around family gatherings that involved fine food whether cooked in their kitchen at home or over a campfire at a family outing. Both of the brothers attribute their love of fine food to the influence of their parents, Sid and Beth.
Chris and Curtis always dreamed of working together. After disparate early careers, they opened The Classic Café at Roanoke in 1993. Quickly they developed both a loyal following and legendary reviews. Memories of the importance of family prevailed as customers were treated as family. As customers celebrated their family milestones at The Classic Café, they became extended members of the Wells family. Remembering their childhood fun of delivering Meals on Wheels with their Mother, they embraced MMOW and held The Classic Café’s first of eighteen annual Wine Benefit Dinners in 1994.
