The Kimbell Art Museum presents the film "The Private Life of a Masterpiece: Edgar Degas, The Little Dancer Aged 14" (2004) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, in the Museum auditorium. This program is approximately 50 minutes long. No reservations required. Admission is free.
Today, The Little Dancer, Aged 14 is widely considered one of the most important sculptures produced during the 19th century. Yet, when the artist Edgar Degas first exhibited this figure, sculpted in wax, with real fabric and hair, it caused quite a scandal among Parisians. This documentary explores the relationship between the artist and his subject, along with how this groundbreaking work blurred social and artistic boundaries to shock contemporary audiences.
