Named by the Texas Section of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) as the QuickStart Facility of the Year in 2011, Southlake Tennis Center is the area's premier facility for junior instruction. This summer, youth ages five to 16 years can learn to play tennis the right way by participating in Southlake Tennis Center's camps and classes taking place June 4 through August 25. Registration and payment can be done in person or online at Southlake Tennis Center.
Using the USTA QuickStart program for 12 and under players, Southlake Tennis Center is offering both week-long tennis camps and once-a-week tennis lessons for ages five to 16 years. The small class sizes ensure individualized attention and emphasize correct technique and match play skills. The instructors are all PTR/USPTA certified tennis professionals with specialist certifications in junior development. In addition, the camps and classes follow the USTA High Performance Coaching program with five coaches who all played college tennis at a high level.
According to Stephen Poorman, director of tennis for Southlake Tennis Center, the QuickStart program ensures children learn to play tennis correctly from the beginning, which uses modified courts, balls and racquets to teach correct technique while having fun.
“This program emphasizes good technique and the ability to play points, which develops tennis skills more quickly,” states Poorman, noting Southlake Tennis Center was one of the first facilities in Texas to be recognized as a USTA Approved QuickStart Tennis Facility. “The focus is on learning to play the game from an early age, not just on instruction.”
The junior tennis camps and classes include warm up drills, stroke development, tennis related games, and match play. Players are grouped by age/ability. The student-pro ratio is no more than eight students per pro. Students will be given a sports sack, water bottle and T-shirt at the time of registration. Players who come to one week of camp are eligible for a 10 percent discount on additional weeks in camp or in our summer junior program through August 25.
