For those counting down the minutes until the State Fair of Texas opens its doors on Friday, September 28 – it's 107 days away for those who aren’t, get ready to have more to look forward to. The Fair Park attraction is celebrating 132 years of tradition by offering more than 100 free attractions, 70 Midway rides and endless activities spread throughout its season run.
This year, patrons can enjoy new fun attractions like Home on the Range. This indoor exhibit will let little ones play in a farm-to-market environment and get up close to some animals in a Children's Barnyard Petting Zoo.
Going along with this year's theme of “Celebrating Texas Innovation,” guests will also be able to walk through the Hall of State to experience the exhibit featuring some of the state's best inventions and innovations of all time. It's a great way to learn more about the brilliant minds that have shaped Texas into the state it is today.
Other new exhibits include a Dallas in the Time of MLK exhibit, a Livestock Birthing Barn and an original “stunt dog show.” Also, this year the State Fair will host sensory-friendly mornings every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for anyone who may benefit from a sensory-friendly experience.
On top of all the fried goodness available on the park grounds, foodies can look forward to new local food options at Backyard Steak-Out & Pizzeria.
And football fans who have come to love the Cotton Bowl showdowns like Grambling State University vs. Prairie View A&M University And The University of Texas vs. The University of Oklahoma can add another game on their schedule. This year the grounds will host the State Fair Showdown – Texas Southern University vs. Southern University.
