PARAMOUNT+
It’s no secret that “The Godfather” is revered as one of the greatest gangster epics of all time. But how did the Oscar-winning production come to be? How did Francis Ford Coppola and Marlon Brando get on board? And what is the story behind that cat? Go behind the scenes and get the inside scoop on one of the greatest films ever made when “The Offer” releases on Paramount+ later this month.
Directed by Dexter Fletcher, who brought rock legends Freddie Mercury and Elton John’s stories to the big screen with “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Rocketman,” “The Offer” shows how Paramount Pictures discovered Mario Puzo’s bestselling novel and follows the journey of adapting it for the big screen. “Whiplash” star Miles Teller portrays the Academy Award-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy, who also serves as the show’s executive producer. Dan Fogler trades his “Fantastic Beasts” suit for Coppola’s director’s chair while “Grey’s Anatomy” star Justin Chambers channels Marlon Brando, though we can’t say for sure if he put cotton wool in his mouth.
If you can’t get enough of the mafia world after finishing “The Offer,” you can jump straight into “The Godfather” and its sequel right after (feel free to skip Part III). If you’re looking for crime sagas of other varieties, the journalistic drama “Tokyo Vice” hits HBO Max early this month, as well as the police thriller “We Own This City.” After all, crime doesn’t just belong to the Corleone family.
