It’s the Year of Doom for QuakeCon 2019, and it’s going to have all of the space marines, shotguns and demons that you’d come to expect from the blood-soaked series.
QuakeCon is an annual gaming convention held in Grapevine that’s organized by ZeniMax Media, whose video game studios have developed iconic franchises such as “Fallout,” “Wolfenstein” and the “Elder Scrolls” series. More notable is that the developers behind the controversial and long-running first-person shooter franchise “Doom,” id Software, will also be at the convention to preview their new game “Doom Eternal,” which is due for release in November later this year.
In celebration of “Doom’s” 25th anniversary, QuakeCon has a subsidiary convention going on called DoomCon, which features all things “Doom” including panelists, speed runs, tournaments and a special demo to the upcoming sequel “Doom Eternal.” There will also be several community tournaments Thursday through Saturday, including 2016’s “Doom,” “Quake: Champions” and “Fallout 76’: Nuclear Winter.”
In addition to all of their gaming, cosplay and fan art contests, QuakeCon 2019 will also have an American Red Cross “Youngblood” Drive that people can donate to from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Those who donate will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a “Wolfenstein: Youngblood”-themed personal computer by Corsair Components.
“Each year, the QuakeCon community comes together in amazing ways, offering their support to a variety of charities, whether that’s giving money, or even giving their own blood for the good of others,” says Pete Hines, Bethesda Softworks vice president of marketing. “This is one of the best parts of QuakeCon and this year’s event offers even more creative ways to do good, from pet adoption live streams to 'Fallout 76' charity fundraisers and much more.”
QuakeCon 2019 runs Thursday through Sunday at the Gaylord Texan Hotel at 1501 Gaylord Trail in Grapevine. General admission tickets are available for free on a first-come, first-serve basis.
