Edgar Allen Poe is paying a visit to the Southlake Public Library tomorrow for a one night only performance.
The show is called “The Shadow of the Raven” and features a deceased Edgar Allen Poe piecing together his life after he mysteriously rises from the dead. According to MySouthlakeNews.com, the show features Broadway actor Duffy Hudson, who specializes in character re-enactments including Albert Einstein, Houdini and, of course, Edgar Allen Poe.
“When I was 9 years old, my father walks into my room reading ‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allan Poe," Duffy recounts on his website. "My father was a very dramatic fellow and this was quite a spirited performance. I found the poem to be haunting, sad and a bit scary.”
Duffy says he uses a combination of biological information and Poe’s literature in this stage adaptation of his life, including “Annabel Lee,” “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven." Duffy estimates that he’s performed as Poe over 1,300 times to more than 400 standing ovations.
Want to check out this free performance? Come to rooms 3A-3D at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Southlake Town Hall, located at 1400 Main St. For more information, call the library at 817.748.8243 or visit SouthlakePublicLibrary.com.
