City of Southlake
Valentine’s Day may not be on a weekend this year but that doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate. Between a sweetheart shuffle and a chocolate muffin workshop, there are plenty of events happening this weekend to enjoy with your significant other or your family.
Sensory Movie Screening - “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”
Kid with special needs can enjoy a sensory movie screening of “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Cinemark Roanoke & XD Theater. Attendees can expect lighting to be dimmed rather than off, lower volumes and kids have the freedom to walk and talk around the theater. Tickets are $5 a person and discount coupons for concessions are available.
Chocolate Muffins and Milkshakes Workshop
On Saturday, Feb. 16, Taste Buds Kitchen in Southlake will be hosting a workshop where children ages 2 to 8 can make their own chocolate zucchini muffins and chocolate milkshakes. Tickets are $28 for a caregiver/child so if you want to learn how to make chocolate zucchini muffins, bring you and your family out to Taste Buds Kitchen.
Celebrate the lunar new year by spending it making lanterns and parading around the Southlake Town Square. This event is free and open to all ages. On Saturday, Feb. 16, from 3 to 8 p.m., the city of Southlake is hosting the 2019 Lantern Walk. Attendees can bring their own lantern or make one starting at 3 p.m. Once it gets dark and everyone has a lantern, attendees will parade through the streets and around McPherson Park. Afterward, there will be a casual reception on the 3rd floor of the Southlake Town Hall.
Even if you are not a runner, you can join the Too Hold to Cold race in Dallas this Saturday. Participants can choose to run a 5K, a 15K or a half-marathon trail. The first 750 participants will receive a free long-sleeve race shirt and beanie and there will be a sponsor village with heaters. At this event, participants can also listen to music and enjoy some food and drinks. An added bonus to participation is that your participation will help the Genesis Women’s Shelter, which helps women who have experienced domestic violence.
Another option for people who want to be active this weekend is the Sweetheart Shuffle. This event, happening on Feb. 17, is a Valentine’s Day themed run. Participants can choose to do a 5K or a 15K and will receive a free race shirt and finisher’s medal. There will also be a pre-run costume contest where people dress in their best pink and red outfits. This event helps support the Hope Clinic, which provides health care services and resources to those in need.
