Summer is over, students are scrambling from classroom to classroom and school is officially back in session. But just because summer break is over doesn’t mean the fun stops. In fact, there are several fun things to do this weekend with the whole family, from the Carroll Dragons’ first football scrimmage to a celebration of everyone's favorite "Peanuts" character.
Carroll Dragon Football Scrimmage
While their first home game against South Grand Prarie High School isn’t until next Friday, the Carroll Dragons will kick off football season during their scrimmage against Arlington High School this weekend. Join several other parents, kids and Carroll Dragon fans as you watch your favorite football players take the field and give you a special preview for what the new season will bring. So come on out and celebrate the new season at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Dragon Stadium. You won’t want to miss the moment between yourself and Dragons young and old.
It’s that time of the month again. Cars and Coffee Southlake is kicking off the school year with a brand new Cars and Coffee event held at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Gateway Church on 700 Blessed Way. Join several other automobile fans and aficionados as you enjoy hot rods, hot coffee and a hot time over at this fun and sprawling community event. The event is free for spectators while drivers pay $10 if they want to show off their slick ride. So come on out: This cool event has all of the cars and coffee for the occasion.
The Flower Mound-based nonprofit Humane Tomorrow is making a trip to Engel & Volkers this weekend, and they’re bringing a bunch of tail-wagging pups with them. Come at Engel & Volkers anytime between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday at 1111 East Southlake Boulevard, Suite 460 and you’ll meet several of their lovable young pups that are eager for a new home and a loving family. Even if you don’t take one of these adorable faces home with you, you’ll at least have an awesome time playing around and cuddling with these cute little pooches.
Back in 1950, famed cartoonist Charles Schulz created the iconic Charlie Brown within the panels of “Peanuts.” Fifty years later, Charlie Brown is still celebrated as one of the most loveable cartoon characters of all time, and everyone is invited to celebrate his 50th anniversary with him. Several theaters throughout the Metroplex are honoring Charlie Brown this weekend by showing a special screening of his 1969 film debut “A Boy Named Charlie Brown,” but you can watch it locally at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Harkins Theatre. Come on out and see the awkward and adorable Charlie Brown compete in his very first spelling bee.
