Cars, cupcakes and copious amounts of slime are coming to the metroplex this weekend to kick off the summer. As school is letting out and you're looking for something fun to do with the kids, you won’t have to look very far — especially with these five events going on this weekend.
Learn to bake your own handmade pies, pastries and cookies at the four-day Baking Techniques Camp, where you’ll learn many baking skills such as cutting in butter, shaping a pie crust and kneading dough for some sweet sticky buns. The last day of the camp will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m in the Taste Buds Kitchen at 2140 East Southlake Boulevard. Single-day tickets range from $49-$60 and aprons can be purchased on-site for $10.
Rev up your engines and drive into Saturday with style with the Colleyville Car Show, hosted at City Hall. Register your car, truck or bike into the show and enter for a chance to win one of three awards — People’s Choice, Mayor’s Choice and Most Unique. DFW rock band The Poor Dogs will also be playing classic rock hits from the '60s to the ’90s from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. On-site registration is free and runs 7-9:30 a.m.
There’s only one thing that screams summer more than a fresh, crispy watermelon, and that’s the warm, sweet softness of a cupcake. But this weekend, both fruit and frostiness collide in the Watermelon Cupcake Workshop, which is hosted by the Taste Buds Kitchen. Come and learn how to make your own sweet treats 9 a.m. Saturday at 2140 East Southlake Boulevard. Tickets are $28 per child, with one caregiver included.
The fresh taste of Georgia will make its way into Southlake this Saturday as the Peach Truck brings in its fresh Georgia peaches on their tour through Texas. Join in on the fun as the Peach Truck sells 25-pound peach boxes, 10-ounce pecan bags and several Peach Truck Tour cookbooks as they tour throughout the metroplex selling the best the Peach state has to offer. The tour runs through Weir’s Furniture Southlake location at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at 201 North Nolen Road.
It’s time to get slimed like a Nickelodeon show at the Epic Slime Party at the Party ’N’ Glow party venue. This gooey get-together will have your kids make their own hand-crafted slime, as well as their own hair braids and other arts and crafts for those who don’t want to get as gunked up. This is one slime party you won’t want to miss, and it’s 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sunday at 2410 East Southlake Boulevard at Suite R. Tickets are $30 per person.
